SoCal Cup: The Showcase Jun 17-19

It has been a long while since you have received an email from me. Please save this message because it contains a lot of information and links for more details about the rest of our season. The players have progressed noticeably over the last few months. I believe playing with their respective High School teams helped each of them mature. They should have completed this homework assignment asking about that experience.

We have two practices scheduled for next week, Monday and Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7:30 PM before our tournament in California on June 17-19. Only two more practices after that on Tuesday and Thursday before we head to Orlando! There is also free Project V training at V South on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30 PM through July 21st if additional touches are needed. I am not aware of any Covid-related requirements for Anaheim or Orlando. We suspect more information and details will be sent to us by early next week. I will text via GroupMe if we are able to get into a gym Thursday evening for a scrimmage and any other important details.

All spectators in Anaheim are required to purchase tickets through SportsWrench through this link: https://tickets.sportwrench.com/buy/?event=999704744 The weekend pass is $60 or a daily pass is $25. After purchase, spectators will receive a QR code that must be scanned from your mobile device for entry. There are unlimited “in and out” privileges as long as your ticket is registered for that particular day or the entire weekend.

We will be playing at the Anaheim Convention Center, 800 W Katella Ave, Anaheim, CA 92802 in Halls B, C, and D again. The spectator entrance is through Hall C only (adjacent to fountains). Available parking is in Car Park Lots 1 and 7. Please refer to the attached map. The City of Anaheim sets the parking rates which are typically $20-$30. The Convention Center does not allow folding chairs or outside coolers. My hope is that those of us who are responsible for helping with food each day will coordinate and provide a sack lunch for each boy to put in their backpack. Concessions are available too. We will likely play two rounds of pool play between Friday and Saturday and then a single-elimination tournament which is supposed to conclude by 4 PM on Sunday. We should know more details about what times and courts by June 14th which will be updated on the schedule and results found in AES: https://results.advancedeventsystems.com/event/PTAwMDAwMjc3MTc90/divisions/123941/overview

Players should eat a healthy and fulfilling breakfast before coming to the tournament each day which means needing to get to sleep early Thursday, Friday, AND Saturday nights to be able to get up each morning with enough time to eat, fight traffic, park, enter the Convention Center, and warm up before our matches. Players should pack extra snacks and not leave the venue for food. Please ensure the athletes always have the following: both uniform tops, black athletic shorts, water bottle, athletic shoes, team t-shirts and hoodies. (Optional items to bring are kneepads, sweats, and/or blanket.) All players should expect to help with officiating responsibilities and stay until the end of each day unless they are released to their parents by the coach.

It looks like we have at least six boys attending the Spiker beach training scheduled for Monday, June 20, from 9:30 AM to noon: Ben, Braxton, Clark, Curtis, Freddy, and Nesta. I need to know about any changes so I can get them signed up for this. It will be at the Newland Street Volleyball Courts at Huntington Beach.

The amazing deal for the Orlando Airbnb is only possible if every player has completely paid their fees to Club V. If so, it will only cost each person just $27 per night including food (at the house and sack lunches) and transportation for the players to/from each of our activities every day. You can look up your totals in this Google Doc which contains a PRELIMINARY ITINERARY: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1t_ojl94jSfR1ePag2z1MdlhGs0qIZpa58Gs4iNNwWFE/

Please Venmo the total amount owed by next week and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
